The Problem.
Reveal-Dx, a Seattle-based software company developing AI-enabled lung cancer radiomics software, needed a way to explain their technology to a broad audience. AI-driven analysis of CT scans of lung nodules is an abstract and highly technical concept. Reveal-Dx needed a way to convey the essential underlying idea without diving too deep into the mathematical weeds. We worked with the team at Reveal-Dx to extract the most important features of their technology and to capture its essence with engaging visuals.
Initial Strategy.
We worked with the team at Reveal-Dx to establish an overall strategy for the technology explainer. The core idea was to represent the computational methods in a more symbolic way: representing the AI as a small flying robot that can illuminate lung nodules. We put together an initial storyboard and began iterating on the idea.

Representing the AI.
The design of the robot was intended to capture the core idea of a technology that can dig into CT scans and illuminate hidden features of lung nodules. We worked through multiple rounds of iteration with Reveal-Dx, refining the design at every stage.

Illuminating the Nodule.
A core aspect of the technology at Reveal-Dx is its ability to extract features within nodules that are hidden from conventional methods. To capture this, the diagnositic robot is depicted as illuminating each nodule, briefly revealing a complex internal structure within.

Feature Extraction.
The design of the machine learning model was intended to capture two essential ideas: a complex 3D network, capable of encoding rich features, and the ability extract hidden patterns and embed them within the network.

The Outcome.
By translating the complex computational methods behind Reveal-Dx's technology into concrete and relatable visuals, our explainer film captured the essence of their technology in a manner that can engage and inform a diverse audience.
